MOSCOW — The Điện Biên Phủ Victory on May 7, 1954 was a great triumph of the Việt Nam People’s Army (VPA) known by the whole world, according to Tsvetov Petr, Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations of the Diplomatic Academy under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Talking to the Việt Nam News Agency’s reporters in Moscow on the occasion of the victory’s 70th anniversary, Tsvetov Petr, who is First Vice Chairman of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, said that this event was a very important lesson in the military history and showed the strength of the VPA.

It also demonstrated that the French forces did not properly evaluate the strength of the Vietnamese people, as they really could not understand that once the Vietnamese people stood up to defend their goals and interests, they could fight selflessly and heroically, with both will and strength to defeat even the strongest enemies.

Regarding the military art, this was a very great campaign, worthy of being taught at military academies, the scholar stressed.

He attributed the victory to the skillful and wise leadership of the Communist Party of Việt Nam, President Hồ Chí Minh, General Võ Nguyên Giáp and Party General Secretary Trường Chinh.

During the battle at Điện Biên Phủ, justice was on Việt Nam’s side because the Vietnamese people stood up to defend their independence.

In addition, the support and assistance of countries in solidarity with Vietnam around the world, first of all the Soviet Union and China, played a big role in the Điện Biên Phủ Victory, added Tsvetov. — VNS
