Xuyen Tam Canal rehabilitation project to get started next year

HCMC – Rehabilitation work on a section of the heavily polluted Xuyen Tam Canal in HCMC will commence in August next year, said local news reports.

The project got the greenlight from the HCMC People’s Council in December 2022 and was subsequently approved by the city’s People’s Committee in October 2023.

The canal rehabilitation project, scheduled to be executed from 2023 to 2028, needs a total of VND9,664 billion, with VND6,372 billion of it going to site clearance compensation, VND2,710 billion to construction, and the remainder to other expenses. It will be all sourced from the city’s budget.

Work on the construction and installation package in Go Vap District is projected to start in August 2024 and is scheduled for completion in April 2025.

Meanwhile, the same package in Binh Thanh District is planned to begin in April 2025 and conclude in April 2028.

The Xuyen Tam Canal has a total length of 8,865 meters, with the mainstream covering 6,628 meters from Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal to Vam Thuan River, and three tributaries totaling 2,237 meters.

The implementation of the project will involve the revocation of 158,800 square meters of land and affect 1,880 households in Go Vap and Binh Thanh districts.
