HCMC – Vietnamese passengers can now use their level-2 electronic identification accounts in the VNeID mobile app for boarding domestic flights at all airports in the country.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has confirmed that VNeID is of same legal value as the plastic chip-based ID card issued for Vietnamese citizens, so passengers can use the app for boarding domestic flights as from August 2.
However, those without a VNeID account can still use their current travel documents including plastic ID cards and passports.
The CAAV has requested the Airports Corporation of Vietnam and Van Don International Airport to acquire equipment for testing the authenticity of VNeID and simultaneously install biometric systems. This step aims to meet the international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Since June 1, 2023, the Ministry of Transport has been testing the integration of solutions to certify the VNeID app via QR code readers at 22 local airports nationwide. During the trial period, the app has enabled passengers to receive support to secure their boarding procedures in case of any loss of identification documents.
