VND25 trillion worth of corporate bonds issued in August

HCMC – The corporate bond market demonstrated robust signs of recovery in August, with 22 rounds of bond issues via private placement worth a total of VND25,055 billion launched, surging by 384% against last month.

These bonds carried an average coupon rate of 9.25% per annum, with maturities ranging from two to five years, according to data from the Vietnam Bond Market Association.

In the first eight months of 2023, corporate bond issues reached over VND132.3 trillion. This comprised 17 public offerings valued at VND16.4 trillion and 101 private placements valued at VND115.8 trillion.

During this period, enterprises redeemed over VND164.8 trillion worth of corporate bonds prior to maturity, increasing by 34% against the same period last year.

Of the total redeemed bonds, the banking sector accounted for 46.7%, equivalent to VND76.9 trillion.

As of August 24, 44 businesses had reached agreements to extend the maturity of their bonds with bondholders and reported these agreements to the Hanoi Stock Exchange. The total value of extended corporate bonds exceeded VND58.8 trillion.

In contrast, 67 businesses faced delays in paying interest or principal on their corporate bonds, resulting in total outstanding debt of around VND173.6 trillion. The majority of these businesses belong to the real estate sector.
