Vietnam PM meets with U.S. Vice President in Indonesia

HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris yesterday, September 6, on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Indonesia.

During their third meeting in two years, the two expressed their delight at the strong development of the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the U.S.

They agreed to elevate their bilateral ties, particularly in areas such as economy, trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, education, training, people-to-people exchange, and addressing the legacy of war.

PM Chinh praised Vice President Harris’s contribution to the bilateral relationship, especially her support for providing Covid-19 vaccines for Vietnam at the height of the pandemic.

He expressed his hope for future meetings to solidify high-level agreements and strengthen ties between Vietnam and the U.S.

Vice President Harris highlighted the significance of President Joe Biden’s upcoming State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. She expressed confidence that this visit would mark a new milestone in bilateral relations.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Biden will be visiting Vietnam from September 10 to 11.

Preparations are underway to warmly welcome him during his visit to Hanoi, where he will meet with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other leaders to discuss ways to deepen ties between the two nations.
