Vietnam, Japan eye stronger bilateral partnership

HCMC – Vietnam and Japan will deepen their multifaceted cooperation, with a focus on jointly organizing a series of key events to mark the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

At a meeting with Secretary-General of Japan’s National Security Secretariat Akiba Takeo in Hanoi City yesterday, March 6, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed the two countries boost economic, commercial and investment ties. The two sides should enhance their cooperation in strategic infrastructure development.

PM Chinh also expected Japan to launch new official development assistance loans, and help Vietnam with digitalization, green transition, adaptation to climate change and circular economy, making it easier for the latter to deepen global economic integration.

The PM also proposed the two nations keep creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese people in Japan and Japanese people in Vietnam to work and study, contributing to cementing their ties.

Takeo emphasized the significance of the Vietnam-Japan relationship, affirming that Japan is keen on further bolstering the partnership with Vietnam, the local media reported.

Takeo said he would report the Vietnamese prime minister’s proposals to the Japanese leaders to join hands to implement numerous bilateral activities, leveling up the two nations’ strategic partnership.

At the meeting, the two representatives also highlighted the importance of international solidarity, regional and global peace, stability and cooperation, maritime freedom, airspace over the sea and peaceful settlement of disputes under international laws.
