HCMC – The Vietnamese and Lao authorities recently held a ceremony to hand over and inaugurate Nong Khang Airport in the northern province of Houaphanh in Laos.

The US$82-million project was built under the build-transfer contract between the Lao government and Vietnam’s HAGL Agrico.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport Ngarmpasong Meungmany, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong and other high-profile officials of the two countries.

The airport project was implemented in accordance with the 3C standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization. It can accommodate aircraft with a designed capacity of 70-100 passengers on board.

The Nong Khang Airport can serve up to 100,000 passengers annually and is part of Laos’ infrastructure development efforts to transform the landlocked country into a regional connection hub.

The project marked a new milestone in the growing Vietnam-Laos bilateral relations, playing an important role in promoting trade and tourism between the two countries.

It is expected to meet the rising demand in traffic in the Lao northeastern part, thus boosting local socioeconomic development.
