HCMC – Unseasonal rains have occured in some parts of the Mekong Delta and the Central Highlands, driving away the sweltering weather and watering thousands of hectares of crops.

Can Tho City saw a heavy rain lasting more than an hour on April 2, which even caused flooding in some streets, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

“This is the ‘golden rain’ I’ve been expecting for a long time. Hopefully, the weather will be milder, with more rain in the coming days,” said Thien Ngan, a resident of Ninh Kieu District in Can Tho City.

Can Tho is forecast to see more unseasonal rains during the next three days after the recent heat wave greatly affected farming and daily life.

Unseasonal rains were also reported in other localities, providing farmers with more water in the dry season.

Cai Lay District in Tien Giang Province saw the same weather phenomenon, with rains on a large scale that provided water for vast areas of durian in the dry season.

Meanwhile, in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, heavy rains ocuured on March 30, helping durian farmers save costs while coping with the drought.

In the first quarter, Lam Dong Province had rainfall half the level in the same period last year. The province’s agricultural sector also introduced many measures to combat drought to save crops, spending more than VND172 billion on this effort.
