HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has proposed conducting a comprehensive survey and river water level calculation for the entire affected area on the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway, including the possibility of raising the road surface if necessary.
After a section of the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway was submerged in floodwaters in late July, a team of experts made a site visit to assess the location, and hydrological conditions upstream and downstream of the affected area, and reviewed the design documents.
The investor’s report and the site survey conducted by the team indicated that the project has adhered to the approved design. To determine the highest water level of the nearby Phan river for the project’s design, the consultant had previously surveyed the highest flood level recorded in 1992 and calculated the dimensions of the sewer.
Based on the collected data, the position of the sewer at Km 25+419 and the sewer dimensions of 2.5×2.5 meters appeared to meet the requirements for natural drainage upstream of the expressway.
However, during the most recent flood in the area, water levels in the area surged despite moderate rainfall. This exceptional factor requires further investigation.
Experts have suggested clearing the downstream of the Phan River to facilitate water flow and drainage. The costs incurred for this solution will be covered by the consultant.
The 99-kilometer Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway, a crucial segment of the eastern North-South Expressway, cost over VND12,500 billion. It connects the Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet Expressway and the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway.
The road has been opened to traffic since April 29, 2023.
