Over 300 local firms using 3CX app prone to cyber attacks

HCMC – At least 318 businesses in Vietnam using video and voice calling software, 3CX Desktop App, are potential targets of a supply chain cyber-attack posed by an advanced persistent threat.

Hackers have sought to deliver malware to user computers by hijacking an official 3CX software update on both Windows and macOS devices, according to Bkav Corporation, a Hanoi-based security software company.

Once unauthorized access is gained, hackers can steal information and make devices vulnerable to cyber security threats.

The 3CX system was reportedly attacked between November and December 2022.

Bkav recommended local users turn off internet access, install the latest software update and contact cyber security service providers for system checks.

The 3CX software enables users to make calls, create voice chats, send text messages and schedule a video conference.

Bkav has 600,000 customers and roughly 12 million daily users, including global firms such as American Express, BMW, and Honda, among others.
