HCMC – The first-ever Vietnam NASA Space Week will be held in HCMC, Hau Giang, and Binh Dinh provinces next week, from June 5 to 9, with the participation of two NASA astronauts.
U.S. astronauts Michael A. Baker and Josef F. Schmid will share their insights on scientific research to protect the Earth, environmental protection, the risks of collisions with other planets, and the possibilities of extraterrestrial life and beings from outer space.
Vietnam is the first Southeast Asian country to host such a NASA event. Participants will have a great chance to talk with the two NASA astronauts and learn more about NASA’s scientific and technological advancements.
On behalf of the organizing committee, Lam Nguyen Hai Long, chairman of the HCMC Computer Association said in a press conference that Vietnam Space Week aims to foster a passion for scientific research and exploration of the world among young people through the stories of astronauts.
In addition to engaging with astronauts, the event will feature a range of activities, including night sky exploration, VR/AR experiences, and drone flight and light shows.
Space Week was first introduced in Scotland in the early 2000s by Hyang Lloyd, a former NASA employee. This event focuses on raising awareness among young people about the opportunities available to them if they choose to pursue careers in STEM fields.
This annual event also aims to highlight the achievements and contributions of NASA in space exploration, scientific research, and technological advancements with a series of activities organized by NASA and its partners.
With the support of NASA, Vietnam Space Week is organized by the People’s Committees of Hau Giang Province, Binh Dinh Province, Thu Duc City, and the HCMC Computer Association.
The Saigon Times Foundation, AmCham Vietnam, Innovation Services Center (ISC), and VNFocus will support the organization of Vietnam Space Week, while SteamZone is the gold sponsor of this first-ever event in Vietnam.
