HCMC – The HCMC Department of Transport has proposed increasing the number of city tour and commuter routes for electric golf carts in order to enhance the effectiveness of green transportation in the city.

This proposal was outlined in a report submitted by the HCMC Department of Transport to the Ministry of Transport, reviewing the results of a pilot program for using golf carts running on battery power or biogasoline to transport tourists and commuters in some areas of the city.

According to the proposal, HCMC suggested removing restrictions on the number of pick-up and drop-off points and allowing those carts to operate on routes with narrower roads that cannot accommodate larger buses. This move aims to improve connectivity in the city’s public transportation system.

Following the trial period, the department noted that golf carts meet the demand of both tourists and commuters. However, the number of passengers utilizing the service remains low, making it hard for investors to maintain the service.

Mai Linh Corporation has ceased the service on the route between Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden and September 23 Park in June 2021.

According to the HCMC Department of Transport, since 2017, about 220,782 passengers have used the service inside the Phu My Hung urban area in District 7.
