DANANG – Hoi An City in the central province of Quang Nam has installed a camera system along some popular streets and areas to improve tourism management and support flood monitoring activities.
The project has seen positive results in the initial phase, according to Truong Thi Ngoc Cam, director of the city’s Center for Culture, Sports, Radio and Television.
The camera system has helped local authorities in managing tourist arrivals and responding more promptly to flooding incidents, notably during the rainy season.
Cam said Hoi An receives some 10,000 visitors per day. This number triples on weekends, which makes it difficult for the city to manage tourism activities, she added.
The cameras, installed on streets such as Bach Dang, Nguyen Thai Hoc, and Cong Nu Ngoc Hoa, and a data system cost VND700 million. The project was funded by Western Digital and its partners.
The plan is part of local authorities’ efforts in making Hoi An a smart city, featuring its rich traditional values and cultural heritages.
