HCMC – HCMC has called for companies from Oakland City in the U.S. to set up shop in the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) for chip and semi-conductor production, along with new material technology.

Speaking at a meeting today, August 7, in HCMC with a business delegation from the State of California, led by Sheng Thao, mayor of Oakland, HCMC chairman Phan Van Mai said Oakland-based businesses can make chips and semiconductors at SHTP.

They can also get involved in infrastructure projects that support import and export activities, and port projects, Mai said, adding the city also needs their experience in financial center development.

Sheng Thao mentioned the shared features and potential for cooperation between the two cities in climate change response, trade, investment, and seaport construction. Some large banks are interested in collaborating with the city to develop an international financial hub.

Moreover, several U.S. businesses are keen on start-ups in HCMC and hope to establish a direct flight between HCMC and Oakland to facilitate trade.
