Greenization gains ground in business employment

HCMC – Half of the green job demand since 2022 has come from the manufacturing sector, followed by the energy, agriculture and technology industries, according to employment solutions firm ManpowerGroup Vietnam.

Cutting back on sustainability spending could make a business less appealing to the workforce, said Nguyen Thanh Huong, country HR manager at ManpowerGroup Vietnam, during a webinar on green job opportunities and sustainability on March 16.

Green jobs help lower the environmental impacts of economic sectors by protecting ecosystems and biodiversity, reducing energy, materials and water consumption via efficient measures, and minimize waste and pollution, according to the United Nations’ International Labour Organization.

Andree Mangels, ManpowerGroup Vietnam general manager, said, “More and more companies have placed significance on ‘green’ practices in their operation, especially in talent acquisition.”

Some 65% of employees are more willing to apply for a position with a company dedicated to sustainable practices, according to recent research cited by ManpowerGroup Vietnam.

The country has aimed to become a green and carbon-neutral economy, seeking to achieve economic prosperity, environmental sustainability and social equality, as stated in the National Green Growth Strategy for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
