Dong Nai proposes two metro rail links with HCMC

HCMC — The southern province of Dong Nai has recently proposed developing an urban railway system that connects to HCMC, including one station and two inter-regional metro lines.

The Dong Nai Department of Transport plans to construct a station in the Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Zone that will integrate various modes of transportation.

From this station, a metro line to the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport would be built, connecting with the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh International Airport light rail line. The project is expected to enhance connectivity between HCMC and Dong Nai Province.

Another metro line would link the Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Zone station and the center of Bien Hoa City, passing through Hiep Hoa District. This project would strengthen connectivity with Bien Hoa Airport, designed for both civilian and military use.

Both metro lines would link with urban areas in Dong Nai’s districts of Nhon Trach, Long Thanh, Thong Nhat and Trang Bom.

The proposal is part of the urban railway system, which has been assigned to a consultant by Dong Nai Province to include in its provincial planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

These metro projects have evolved from a prior proposal to extend HCMC’s Metro Line No. 1, which runs from downtown HCMC to Thu Duc City, into the neighboring provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Duong.

In Dong Nai, the planned extension of the Metro Line No. 1 spans about 18.3 kilometers on elevated track and is divided into three segments.
