For ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands, the elephant is not only their asset but also their cultural identity, even a family member. They ride elephants to the field for work. In recent years, elephants also participate in tourism activities, helping them earn a better living.
Currently, localities in the Central Highlands run an elephant-friendly tourism program to prevent elephant abuse. Tourists are encouraged not to ask for an elephant ride. They can experience other tourism activities with elephants, such as feeding elephants, decorating elephants, taking pictures with elephants, or watching elephants draw pictures, among others.
