HCMC – The Cho Lon Night Street is set to open daily from 6 p.m. within a 1,500-square-meter area near Binh Tay Market, District 6, according to the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade.
The project aims to boost tourism and night-time economy, with eight functional areas offering spaces for food stalls and cultural and art activities on the sidewalks of Nguyen Huu Than, Thap Muoi, Le Tan Ke and Tran Binh streets.
In addition to technical facilities, local authorities plan to build six parking lots and upgrade the current public toilets in the nearby area. They expect to welcome 2,000 nightlife lovers daily.
The plan includes two phases, with the execution scheduled after 2023. The night street project will secure finance from potential investors via bidding.
HCMC now has two pedestrian streets in District 1, Nguyen Hue and Bui Vien, in addition to a range of food streets in other districts, including Vinh Khanh in District 4, Hau Giang in District 6, Quang Trung and Ho Thi Ky in District 10 and Nguyen Thuong Hien in District 3.
