HCMC – U.S. plane maker Boeing will develop a supply chain of aviation equipment and spare parts in Vietnam in the future, according to the vice president of the corporation.
Steve Biegun, senior vice president of the Boeing Company, met with Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting and Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) in the U.S. on May 26 (local time).
Biegun said Boeing would boost cooperation with local airlines in specialized areas such as helicopters, transportation and development of supply chains in aviation equipment and spare parts.
Some companies in Vietnam are supplying Boeing with parts of its commercial aircraft such as components and interior parts, synthetic materials but most of these products have no high added value.
Businesses involved in the supply chains of aviation and space are mainly those with foreign investment from the U.S., Japan and South Korea.
Dien said the Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to coordinate with strategic partners like Boeing in designing a framework for favorable cooperation and sustainable development in aviation supporting industries in Vietnam.
Boeing, with its commercial presence in Vietnam since 2021 but starting its operation in the country in 1995, has contributed a lot to the development of the local aviation industry including providing technical support for Vietnam in defense and commercial aviation services, helping Vietnam obtain a direct commercial flight permit between HCMC and San Francisco in the U.S.
