Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company, has marked its presence expansion in Vietnam by announcing on August 31 the launch of the first two AWS edge locations in the country located in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

With these new edge locations in Vietnam, AWS now has more than 412 Points of Presence globally, in 92 cities across 48 countries, designed and built to deliver the most secure, reliable, and scalable cloud computing environment with the highest-quality network performance.

With the launch, customers in Vietnam can expect up to a 30 per cent improvement in first-byte latency for data delivered through the new edge locations that provide secure, reliable, and high-performing connectivity to the rest of the AWS global network.

AWS also plans to offer AGA, a service that improves the availability and performance of end-user traffic by using AWS’s global network infrastructure via the new edge infrastructure in Vietnam. When the internet is congested, AGA’s automatic routing optimisations help keep packet loss, jitter, and latency consistently low.

The improved and even more secure user experience with the launch of local AWS infrastructure will help business and government organisations in Vietnam, including education, media and entertainment, gaming, healthcare, mobile banking, and e-commerce to innovate more quickly and deliver improved digital services on behalf of their customers.

Managing director for Amazon Web Services in ASEAN Conor McNamara said, “We are committed to expanding our infrastructure in Vietnam in response to customer feedback, bringing new services and more advanced cloud technologies closer to our local customers.”

“Businesses of all sizes and across all industries can now enjoy the low latency and high data transfer rates provided by our first two AWS edge locations in Vietnam. This latest announcement reinforces our commitment to the country, and we will continue to invest in local cloud infrastructure to help meet their needs,” added McNamara.

Many businesses in Vietnam benefit from AWS services, including Amanotes, HayHay Studio, Viettel Solutions, VNG Corporation, and others.

The Vietnamese game developer HayHay Studio is behind famous games such as bắn trứng (egg shoot) and bắn bóng (bubble shoot), which have more than 20 million downloads globally.

Son Lam Dang, CEO, HayHay Studio said, “When it comes to gaming, every millisecond counts. We are excited to leverage the new AWS edge locations in Vietnam and use Amazon CloudFront to deliver our game content to our customers faster. The arrival of edge infrastructure in Vietnam will help us to deliver improved customer experiences by launching more features, more quickly and testing new games with improved graphics quality and faster response times.”

Similarly, Viettel Solutions – a subsidiary of Viettel Group and a select AWS Partner – is an IT consultancy that helps customers drive digital transformation in industries such as financial services, manufacturing, and energy.

Doan Dai Phong, deputy CEO of Viettel Solutions said, “Having AWS edge locations in Vietnam will help us to deliver content including data, videos, and applications to our customers securely, at a higher speed, and with low latency. For example, manufacturing customers can benefit from low latency and reliable network traffic between devices to process high-bandwidth camera streams and imagery to better predict factory defects. We are excited to help our customers to innovate more quickly with the launch of AWS edge locations here in Vietnam.”
