Consular Club HCMC raises US$177,000 for charities in southern Vietnam

HCMC – The Consular Club HCMC raised a total of US$177,000 at its annual fundraising dinner, the highest amount in the club’s 29-year history.

The Fundraising Dinner 2023 took place on September 30, with the aim of supporting life-changing initiatives in southern Vietnam.

The event, which was completely sold out, brought together diplomats, business leaders, and philanthropists. In a remarkable development, this year’s funds raised exceeded the initial estimate by 2.5 times.

The money collected will be directed towards supporting four charity organizations, including VietHarvest, Planète Enfants et Développement Vietnam, and the Brighter Path Girl’s Club of VinaCapital Foundation.

Milena Padula, President of the Consular Club HCMC, expressed her gratitude to all those who contributed to this record-breaking success. “On behalf of the members of the Consular Club, I would like to thank the incredible donors, auction prize winners, all the event sponsors, and, of course, everyone who attended the event.”

VietHarvest, one of the beneficiaries, is dedicated to combating food waste and hunger in the region by collecting quality surplus food and redistributing it to underserved communities.

Ngo Phuong Anh, the HCMC manager for VietHarvest, said, “We never expected to receive this size of donation from the event, and we are absolutely blown away by the support and generosity we have so gratefully received.”

Planète Enfants et Développement Vietnam and the Brighter Path Girl’s Club of VinaCapital Foundation will also benefit from the proceeds of the Fundraising Dinner. These organizations work tirelessly to support children’s education and welfare, ensuring a brighter future for the youth in southern provinces.

The Consular Club HCMC is a non-profit organization comprising international and Vietnamese representatives affiliated with a consular mission in HCMC.

Established in 1994, the Consular Club brings together the diplomatic and private sector communities to raise funds and support local charities, with a focus on improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations in southern Vietnam, with an emphasis on advancing gender equality and sustainability.
