HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh rang the bell to open a trading session at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on September 21 morning local time during his visit to this world’s largest stock exchange.

At a brief meeting with John Tuttle before the ceremony, PM Chinh expressed his impression at the NYSE capitalization of US$40 trillion.

He suggested that the NYSE provide information to investors about the favorable investment and business environment in Vietnam, considering the growing relations between Vietnam and the U.S., especially after the elevation of ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

He hoped that the NYSE would encourage businesses to invest in Vietnam and facilitate connections between the Vietnamese stock markets and NYSE, as well as other leading global stock exchanges. The PM also sought technical support and human resource training for Vietnam in the field.

John Tuttle said, “We are ready to assist Vietnamese businesses in listing on the NYSE and collaborate on cross-listings in each other’s markets,” reported the VnExpress news site.

After the brief meeting with the leadership of NYSE, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed the guestbook, then rang the bell to kick off the trading session at 9:30 a.m. local time.

This is the second time that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has visited the NYSE and rung the bell there. In May 2022, PM Chinh also rang the bell to close a trading session at the NYSE during his working trip to the U.S.

The NYSE, which dates back to 1927, is the world’s oldest and largest stock exchange in terms of trade volume and total market capitalization. The opening and closing of a trading session at the NYSE begin with a bell sound.
