HCMC – U.S. President Joe Biden has arrived in Hanoi, starting his State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At exactly 3:40 p.m. this afternnoon, September 10, the aircraft carrying President Joe Biden from the capital city of New Delhi landed at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
Accompanying President Biden are Secretary of State Antony Blinken, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, Deputy National Security Advisor John Finer, Coordinator for Indo-Pacific Affairs in the National Security Council Kurt Campbell, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania at the National Security Council Mira Rapp-Hooper, and Special Advisor to the President, Senior Director of the National Security Council Tarun Chhabra.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is scheduled to preside over an welcome ceremony for President Joe Biden at the Presidential Palace. After the ceremony, the two leaders will hold talks and speak to the media.
President Joe Biden’s current visit to Vietnam marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries (2013 – 2023). He is the fifth U.S. President to visit Vietnam since the normalization of relations between the two countries in 1995.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the U.S. Nguyen Quoc Dung said the two sides will review their comprehensive partnership in all fields and outline orientations for their ties for the time ahead, with a focus on science and technology, economic and trade relations, investment, people-to-people exchanges, and the settlement of war consequences.
Vietnam and the U.S. are expected to identify clearer priorities for collaboration in fields such as high technology, artificial intelligence, and telecommunications networks, as well as launch some cooperative initiatives and mechanisms in semiconductors and advanced technology workforce development.
Moreover, government agencies and businesses from both sides are set to sign several memoranda of understanding and agreements worth up to billions of U.S. dollars, providing a foundation to further propel Vietnam’s development in green economy, digital economy, and high technology.
Dung believed that President Biden’s visit will open up a new chapter in the Vietnam-U.S relations and create more favorable conditions for Vietnam to gradually gain a higher position in regional and global value chains.
