HCMC – The long-stalled Long Kieng bridge in Nha Be District, HCMC was opened to traffic this morning, enhancing traffic connectivity in the southern part of the city.

The VND589-billion bridge on Le Van Luong Street crosses Phuoc Kieng River and connects Phuoc Kien and Nhon Duc communes.

The nearly-one-kilometer-long bridge took more than two decades to complete due to long delays.

The project was approved in 2001, but work on it began in August 2018. The bridge was then expected to be completed after two years of construction.

However, due to site clearance bottlenecks, the project was put on hold at the end of 2019 after building seven piles.

After three years of suspension, work on the project resumed after Nha Be authorities handed over all cleared land to the contractor in September last year, boosting the completion of the bridge three months ahead of the plan.

The inauguration of the bridge has satisfied local residents’ expectation as they no longer face traffic congestion and risks of traffic safety when travelling on a small, tiny, aged iron bridge.

According to Luong Minh Phuc, director of the Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of HCMC (TCIP), the project’s investor, said the completion of the project facilitates traffic movement of local residents, enhancing traffic connection between the southern part of the city and neighboring Long An Province through Le Van Luong Street.
