PM Pham Minh Chinh attends 43rd ASEAN Summit in Indonesia

HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is leading a high-level delegation to participate in the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings in Jakarta, Indonesia.

His flight departed this morning, September 4. The ASEAN Summit, hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo from September 4 to 7, has the theme of “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.”

The ASEAN Summit takes place against a backdrop of global uncertainties, with projections of positive economic growth but at an unstable pace. Participating countries are prioritizing sustainable economic restructuring and seeking self-reliance through diversified, multi-dimensional economic linkages.

Southeast Asia remains a nexus of economic growth and strategic competition, although some nations have experienced declines in exports. The Myanmar situation and tensions in the East Sea are significant concerns in the region.

As the ASEAN Chair in 2023, Indonesia has been actively promoting its priorities and initiatives to stimulate ASEAN’s development. Vietnam, as a proactive participant, is committed to maintaining a balanced and harmonious approach to regional and international issues.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s participation aligns with Vietnam’s foreign policy principles of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development, diversification, and multilateralism.

This mission carries forward significant messages from Vietnam’s Communist Party, State, and Government to ASEAN partners and international allies, emphasizing Vietnam’s commitment to active, proactive, and effective regional engagement.

The Vietnamese delegation includes ministers and officials from various sectors. They are Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung, Deputy Minister of National Defense Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Chief of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Thanh, and Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese delegation to ASEAN Nguyen Hai Bang.
