HCMC – A Singaporean container ship veered off course on the Thi Vai River and crashed into a cargo ship, causing a 46-meter section of the wharf at Interflour Cai Mep Port in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province to collapse.
The incident took place at 5:40 p.m. on July 13 during heavy rain.
The Wan Hai A02 vessel, with a weight capacity of over 140,000 tons, was navigating the maritime channel on the Thi Vai River after unloading its cargo when it unexpectedly collided with the starboard of the moored VASSOS 2 vessel at Interflour Cai Mep Port.
The collision between the two vessels resulted in the collapse of a 46-meter section of the wharf, along with the gantry and other equipment falling into the river.
Upon the incident, officials of the Maritime Administration of Vung Tau promptly arrived at the scene to collaborate with port operators and ship owners in formulating response measures and addressing the initial consequences.
In another development, the adverse weather conditions have also led to the suspension of the Vung Tau-Con Dao high-speed boat service from July 17 to 28, according to Vu Van Khuong, CEO of Phu Quoc Express JSC.
Additionally, the boat service from Tran De in Soc Trang Province to Con Dao Island will be suspended from July 17 to 23.
In the event of improved weather conditions, the company will resume operations earlier than anticipated. Passengers holding tickets for the affected trips will have the option to cancel or change their tickets free of charge.
