HCMC – Following a test operation at the Cat Bi International Airport in Haiphong City, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) will introduce biometric authentication technology at the Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province.

The Northern Airports Authority was told to keep a close watch over the test, while Van Don airport will join hands with local budget carrier Vietjet Air and the Noi Bai Aviation Security Center to carry out the plan.

Moreover, the airport was tasked with devising solutions against the congestion during the implementation with prompt and regular cooperation among the relevant agencies.

It was deemed necessary to clarify the prominent principles to businesses and organizations at the airport to align with the trial output.

Passengers will be informed and updated with the biometric authentication procedure, which is now optional.

Before reporting to CAAV, the airport will review and gauge the pilot effect based on aviation security risks and customer convenience, as determined by the relevant airport authorities.

Biometric technologies require passengers to scan their faces with cameras at the security checkpoint to cross-check the information on their ID cards and boarding passes.
