HCMC – The investor of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge is seeking the Government’s approval for an additional VND1,600 billion and a pushback of the project’s completion date to 2026.

In a recent document sent to the Ministry of Transport, the Management Board of the My Thuan Project, the investor of the bridge project, said the cost of the project should be adjusted up to VND6,800 billion.

The investment cost revision results from the land clearance of an extra three hectares and the rise in affected households by 40.

Rising land prices in Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces have led to the cost of the project rising.

Land clearance on the side of Tien Giang Province is 46% complete and the percentage on the side of Ben Tre Province is 83%.

Three access road packages on both sides of the bridge are under construction and 23% finished. Work on the three remaining packages will begin soon.

Several parts of access roads need more time than earlier planned, so the investor has proposed rescheduling the completion of the project to 2026, one year later than originally planned.

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge across the Tien River, which is 17.6 kilometers long, is designed to have four lanes with a maximum speed of 80 kph. The project got off the ground in March 2022.

During a site visit to the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction site on February 15, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the investor to complete the project in October 2025.
