HCMC – The Japanese Government yesterday, March 7, signed a contract to grant over US$250,000 in non-refundable aid to three projects in healthcare and education in HCMC and the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau.

The signing ceremony of the financial aid, part of the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, took place at the Consulate General of Japan in HCMC, the local media reported.

Speaking at the event, Watanabe Nobuhiro, Japanese Consul General in HCMC, said Japan had attached great importance to the GGP aid scheme since it provides humanitarian aid and addresses the basic human needs of local residents.

One of the three projects is to provide equipment to support children with hearing impairment at the Ca Mau Province center to support inclusive education development. The aid, worth over VND78,500, will comprise 84 hearing aids and 102 assisted listening devices.

Nguyen Nga, director of the center, said these modern devices would partly help make life easier for children with a hearing impairment.

The second project, the largest one by value, worth more than US$90,900, comprises building three classrooms and toilets for a local primary school in the province’s Ca Mau City.

To Hoai Phuong, chairman of the People’s Committee in Ca Mau City, said that the project would help tackle the deteriorating school infrastructure in the city.

As for the third project in HCMC, the Japanese Government provided a new cardiac ultrasound machine to the Gia Dinh Hospital in the city.

According to Nguyen Hoang Hai, director of the hospital, the new cardiac ultrasound machine would shorten the time needed to offer medical treatment to patients, thus reducing pressure on healthcare workers.
