HCMC – Hanoi City has mapped out a master plan for development in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, in which two satellite cities and three growth pillars will be developed in the city.
The first satellite city will be located north of the Red River, comprising the districts of Me Linh, Soc Son and Dong Anh. It will focus on developing economic integration, smart services, and logistics, as well as supporting industrial production chains in the surrounding areas.
The second city is expected to encompass the Hoa Lac Urban Area and Xuan Mai Town. It requires the local authority to develop an elevated railway on the Ha Dong-Xuan Mai Expressway and upgrade the section from Son Tay to Xuan Mai of National Highway 51.
The Hanoi City Party Committee approved a spatial orientation to develop underground, green and public spaces in the city.
As per Hanoi’s master plan, the three growth pillars comprise the Red River, West Lake-Ba Vi and Nhat Tan-Noi Bai.
Among those, the Red River pillar focuses on developing green spaces, while the Nhat Tan-Noi Bai pillar is for smart urban spaces. The West Lake-Ba Vi pillar will help connect central urban areas with other satellite urban areas.
The local authority finds it necessary to improve the infrastructure and railway system, as well as strengthen connectivity between different parts of the city and with the other northern provinces of Bac Ninh, Hung Yen and Vinh Phuc.
