HCMC – As XBB, a new Omicron variant of Covid-19, has spread to over 70 countries, the Ministry of Health has called for continued effort to prevent new infections, and minimize the spread of XBB at hospitals and medical facilities.
The ministry has issued a dispatch requiring health departments, hospitals and medical facilities across the country to strive to detect and treat new cases of the new Omicron variant in line with the four on-the-spot principles.
The principles are disease prevention and isolation on the spot, treatment and materials on the spot, human resources on the spot and funding on the spot.
Medical facilities are required to prepare enough drugs, equipment, and medical supplies, as well as closely monitor and care for hospitalized Covid-19 patients and timely detect those in severe condition to prevent death and severe illness.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health suggested organizing more discussions and consultations for professional advice at hospitals and medical facilities to reduce the transfer of patients to larger facilities.
Medical staff and doctors have been asked to strengthen prevention measures and reduce Covid transmission in hospitals, especially to protect patients at high risk of severe illness.
Patients with severe conditions and suspected cases of Covid infection have been advised to undergo real-time RT-PCR tests.
Provincial and central hospitals should assess severe cases and report the DNA sequencing results of Covid samples to the Ministry of Health.
