HÀ NỘI — Vietinbank has donated VNĐ1.1 billion (US$47,513) to Vietnamese students studying in Japan who are facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donation, among total support of VNĐ22 billion from MUFG Japan and Vietinbank, was given to Vũ Hồng Nam, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, to support the students. The two sides also discussed ways to distribute the money to Vietnamese students quickly, effectively and suitably with the programme’s target.
Vietinbank said it expected the donation would support the students and encourage them to complete their studies. It would also enhance co-operation between Vietinbank and MUFG as well as members of MUFG’s global strategic partner network.
Earlier, Vietinbank donated VNĐ10 billion to the Government to buy medical supplies and equipment for the Ministry of Health in fighting the COVID-19, sponsoring five ventilators for Bạch Mai Hospital.
The bank has provided VNĐ26,000 rice gifts amounting to VNĐ2 billion for people in difficult situations due to the pandemic. It also donated VNĐ15 billion for Đà Nẵng City and Quảng Nam and Hải Dương provinces for COVID-19 prevention.
A strategic partner of VietinBank since 2012, MUFG has worked closely with the bank to exploit the potentials of each party in the Vietnamese and regional markets. — VNS
